Regular Season Recap 2018

This season, NUT traveled more than any NUT team before it. NUT kept up the previous year’s tradition of attending four regular season tournaments. With sights set high, NUT challenged contenders from all over the U.S.

With a mostly fresh and young squad, NUT drove 777 miles and over 12 hours down to Charlotte, North Carolina for Queen City Tune Up. NUT faced much adversity from some strong teams, and despite marking more L’s than W’s on the weekend, the whole team learned a lot from playing tough games.

Next was NUT’s return Florida Warm Up, where NUT harnessed turtle power to shellshock opponents. NUT barely missed out on the bracket with a 3-3 record with notable wins against Florida and Texas A&M. Despite this, NUT made the most of their final games and took down Auburn, Texas, and Harvard to finish out the weekend and finish with a respectable 9th place.

NUT then set their sights on Centex in Austin, Texas. Saturday featured five pool play games and tested NUT’s endurance in the hot sun. Sunday was a different animal all together, with gusty winds dictating play. NUT secured an upwind break against directional rival Northeastern, but was broken back soon after to lose 12-13. NUT faced a similar disappointing result against Kansas earlier that day. Though NUT’s emphasis for performance over results still garnered a successful weekend.

To close out the regular season, NUT headed to Missouri to compete in Huck Finn following Spring Break. Despite rainy forecasts and a change in field sites, NUT broke seed and took their power pool with decisive wins over Texas, regional rival Illinois, and Ohio State. NUT completed Saturday with a win over Arkansas to punch their ticket into the Quarterfinals. Sunday morning Quarterfinals reminisced of previous Regional Quarterfinals and NUT fell to Harvard, but won out to take 5th by beating Illinois State and Vermont.
