Tryout Process
We host open practices approximately 2-3 times a week where players have the opportunity to not only learn how to play the sport of ultimate but to also showcase their abilities to coaches and captains. We travel to 2 “XY” tournaments where we divide all players interested in representing Lake and/or Blizzard into two teams randomly to get a taste of what the college scene is like. For rookies, the XY tournaments are partially subsidized to make the tryout process more accessible. After those tournaments and more open practices, all interested players will be split up into Lake Effect, our A-team and more competitive roster, and Blizzard, our other open team which is open to new players throughout the entire year. Lake will revert to closed practices while Blizzard’s practices will still be open.

Things to Look Out For
Deering Mini: We will be hosting Deering Mini at Deering Meadow on Wednesday, September 16 and Friday, September 18 from 5 pm until dark. Come out and play some competitive and fun mini while getting to meet captains of Lake and Claw, as well as present and future players of Lake, Blizzard, Claw, and Blaw!
RecFest: Northwestern Recreation will be hosting RecFest on Thursday, September 17 at 7 pm at the Northwestern Medicine Field, which provides students the opportunity to check and get to know about club sports at Northwestern, including ultimate frisbee. Be sure to check out our stand where you’ll get a lot of information on the program, meet with captains and veterans, and maybe test out your vertical!
Hat Tournament: We will be hosting our annual Hat Tournament on Sunday, October 4 at Long Field where, alongside the women’s team, we’ll split off into several teams (mixed between the men’s /open team and the women’s team) and play a round-robin style tournament!
