Height: 5′ 9″
Weight: Depends if his hairs wet
Hometown: Grand Rapids, MI
Favorite food: I think he told me Indian food once
Fun fact: Vine Campus Rep.
Isaiah Mendoza — surprisingly never referred to as Vine-saiah– is a junior in his second year on NUT. Fall Quarter saw an identity crisis for the team as Isaiah was gone studying abroad and we were vastly under-educated in the subject of Vines. No not red vines, not jungle vines, the 6-second video clip, seafoam green logo, Vine. Upon his return, team vocabulary expanded to include classics such as: “Is this allowed?” , “Hey Darren”, and “They were roommates”. I once heard head coach Kevin Yngve say “I love vines” after he was introduced to them by Isaiah in a car parked in a church parking lot… but that’s another story.
Isaiah is a steady handler with throws smooth like butter. You can trust him in any weather condition and he works hard every time he’s on the field. His defense is just as strong and gritty–case in point, he got a sick layout endzone D in OvY this year. This guy also knows resilience, his bike broke every other week in the winter but he still found a way to and from practice. Aside from Isaiah’s athleticism and drive, his demeanor and personality are huge assets to the team. He is a cool cucumber, always level-headed. I know this is true because after 3 years of people touching his hair without permission he still never snaps at them. He’s fun, a great teammate, and a hard worker. NUT got lucky with the young Michigan recruit. He’s keeping us in the now generation, and I’d trust him as a direct translator for one Eric Hochberger. Isaiah is full of jokes and gets along with everyone on the team, I think Large Marge better watch out because we’re all after Isaiah’s heart after he stole ours.
