Kevin Bruns joined the NUT coaching staff in 2013 “because Ian asked me to”. He was voted 2014 Coach of the Year in the Great Lakes Region for his work with NUT. Before joining NUT, he played for the Illinois A and C teams, captaining in 2012 (the A team). He has played men’s club ultimate in the Chicago area, most recently for Natives (2012), Chicago Club (2013) (but we don’t like to talk about that), and Black Market Ultimate (2014), and he will co-captain Black Market Ultimate in the 2015 club season. He co-coached the Naperville women’s YCC team in 2014, and is also a longtime coach of girls youth basketball.
Kevin Bruns excels at fostering a strong team dynamic and brings a no-nonsense strategic approach to NUT. He has grown as a coach as NUT has grown as a program, and is constantly challenging himself and NUT to strive for the next level. Some of his biggest role models include Chuck Kindred (NUT ‘03), Walden Nelson (Illinois ’10), and Matt Stupca (Illinois ’03).
In addition to coaching NUT, Kevin Bruns works full-time for Northern Trust and is in school pursuing his MBA, so he can become an even better banker. In his rare free time, he maintains a blog where he posts his ultimate related thoughts.
