2006 Season

With the addition of three pretty good rookies (Evan Klane, Wilson Chang, and Carl Deffenbaugh) and one earnest one in Sketch, NUT reloads a bit. We attend the first ever Trouble in Vegas, which was quite a good time. Andy Wade and Wack Jade make a cameo appearance with NUT for TiV1. Highlights of this tournament include Klane calling a foul against North Texas, only to have the offending party flip out and recommend that rookie Evan “learn to get skyed, son!” Dan and Trudy Schelitzche are our superfans, and J-Liu wins like $150 on his first pull of a nickel slot machine. Wilson “Roland” Chang accompanies some of the seniors to a classy gentleman’s club, where Ace first decided that he loved strippers, I believe this one’s name was Shauna. Southerns comes around, and NUT plays what would be their first of three games vs Middlebury over the next five days, of which they would lose all three. The last loss is capped by the ignominy of NUT having to switch jerseys with these “fucking smelly hippies” because of captain K’s misguided attempt to flip for something interesting. In addition to Georgia Southerns before high tide, NUT plays Huck Finn in St Louis the weekend after High Tide, bookending their spring break. NUT rolls through CP sectionals, beating Illinois twice while losing to Notre Dame in the finals. A second place finish at sectionals is a high point for the season. Regionals this year were in Naperville, and it was raining cats, dogs, and Shortstacks. Coming in seeded fifth, NUT beats U of Chicago (AGAIN, when did we ever lose to these guys?) before getting smoked by Notre Dame. Falling into the consolation bracket with a need to win out five straight games to qualify for nationals, NUT falls in a rainy heartbreaker to Purdue 15-16, season over.
