Northwestern Ultimate Frisbee became Northwestern Elephant Ultimate. The slogan of the team was “We may be slow, but we can knock over trees with our heads.” Tom Gelin became a third captain this year. The team won sectionals and advanced to the Semis at Regionals. The team lost to Kansas that year and Kansas went on to lose to Oberlin in the Finals.
We finished about 20-10 year and missed nationals by one game — losing about 17-14 to a Kansas team with two 6’8 hoopsters we couldn’t defend and two good handlers. We had about 20 players on the team then — it was definitely the first time the team had any legitimate success. We had some interesting experiences at Mardi Gras tournaments in Baton Rouge, too.
