Spring Tournament Recap: Midwest Throwdown

This past weekend, NUT and Bolt drove 6 1/2 hours to Columbia, Missouri for Midwest Throwdown. The windy weather presented a welcomed challenge to both teams. NUT started off the day with a universe point victory over WashU. They finished the day off with victories over Missouri and Iowa State to earn the 1-seed in the 16-team Sunday bracket. NUT started Sunday off with convincing victories to earn a rematch with WashU in the semifinals. NUT rolled off six straight breaks in the game, advancing to the finals with a 15-8 victory. In the final, Purdue started the game strong and grabbed an early lead. NUT was never able to grab a foothold in the game and lost 15-4. NUT finished 2nd at the tournament and looks forward to Indy Invite in two weeks.

Bolt started off the weekend against two tough opponents. A combination of the wind and zone defense proved too much for them as they fell in both games. In their final game of pool play, Bolt mounted a huge second half comeback against Drury, winning the game on universe point. Bolt’s magic continued on Sunday with three comeback victories and finished in 25th place. Bolt’s next tournament is CRWUL in four weeks.
