Spring Tournament Recap: Indy Invite

With Winter Quarter coming to an end, NUT drove down to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in Indy Invite. The scare of poor weather caused some teams to drop the tournament leading to an unconventional format. Ultimately, (pun highly intended) Saturday’s weather proved to be cold and windy, but playable, and Sunday’s weather was actually sunny and pleasant. This tournament marked the beginning of Frisbee Spring Break 2k17, and thankfully Indy’s weather came through in the end.

Saturday was comprised of three pool play games including two wins against regional opponents Michigan State and Chicago. NUT also played a tight game against Akron, in which Akron broke NUT late to take the half. NUT responded by breaking twice and reclaiming the lead for a win. NUT’s final game on Saturday was a crossover with the winners of the two power pools.  The other power pool was taken by regional rival Michigan. After keeping a close game in the first half, Michigan rattled off some breaks and NUT was unable to recover leading to a Michigan win.

Sunday NUT entered the bracket with a win over Grand Valley State in the Quarterfinals.  NUT got off to a sluggish start in the Semifinals matchup against Ohio giving up a break on the first point of the game. Despite NUT turning up the intensity in the latter part of the game, Ohio held on to the lead and defeated NUT.  The final game of the day was the 3rd place game against none other than Chicago. NUT ended the weekend on a high note by rattling off a handful of breaks against Chicago and took the W and 3rd place in the tournament.

Huge shoutout to the Bolt guys who supported NUT on the way to SB2k17.  NUT, Bolt, and Northwestern’s Women’s team GungHo will be traveling down to Pensacola, Florida for the week of Spring Break.  NUT will make their final regular season appearance at Huck Finn on April 1-2.
