End of Season 2017

The 2017 season has wrapped up. This season marked some big changes for the program; New coaches, more tournaments, NUT Winter Retreat, and a huge class of seniors all lent themselves to a new NUT culture that we hope to continue.

NUT blasted its way on the scene with an impressive 3rd place finish at the highly touted Florida Warm Up. NUT made the championship bracket after only one loss in two days of pool play, and took down Texas in the quarterfinals, fell to Minnesota in the semis, but ended strongly with a win over Texas A&M in the 3rd place game. NUT continued by taking 2nd at Midwest Throwdown, 3rd at Indy Invite, and 7th place at Huck Finn to finish out the regular season. At the end of the Winter and into the Spring, NUT was attending a tournament every other weekend.

NUT went undefeated at Sectionals and claimed the 1st place spot in the championship against Illinois. The first day of the Great Lakes Regionals tournament was as expected. Extreme winds and general poor conditions, but NUT fought its way into bracket play on Sunday. In the Quarterfinals, NUT squared off against Purdue. Much of the game was back and forth. Each side would go up breaks and recover them throughout the whole game. Eventually, the score game reached universe point, but unfortunately Purdue was able to secure the break for the win. This marked the end of the NUT’s season. NUT went on to take 5th place at Great Lakes Regionals.

Though the results were shy of expectations and desires, NUT had many younger players step into huge roles, promising a bright future for the program. As we send off a large group of seniors, and welcome in a new class of talented rookies, we appreciate everyone who has come to support us over the years. Without fans, parents, alumni, friends, and everyone else, our season would not be possible, so we thank you for your continued support.
